The Brown County Eagles’ softball season came to an abrupt end Monday evening.
Like last year, the South Vermillion Wildcats unexpectedly knocked off the Eagles during sectional play.
Brown County team came into the sectional with 20 wins on the season and just six losses. The players also entered the first round with the knowledge that they had beaten the Wildcats 4-0 and 10-0 in an April 21 doubleheader where the Eagles gave up only three hits combined.
The past did not matter on Monday as the Wildcats beat the Eagles 4-2, thus ending a season where players had high hopes of advancing to semistate on their home field at Eagle Park.
Coach Ron McDonald could not be reached for comment.
