Brown County Schools wants your children. Sept. 14 is the Average Daily Membership count date, the student count that largely determines the amount of general fund dollars each district receives from the state. Preliminary counts show that Brown County’s 2012-2013 enrollment is down compared to last year — a continuing trend that means progressively less money to operate the schools. The district receives about $5,500 per student enrolled in grades 1-12. From 2005-06 through this year’s unofficial Sept. 6 count, Brown County Schools has lost an average of nearly 31 students per year. Without this year factored in, the average loss is nearly 34 students per year. As of Thursday, the corporation was on track to have its second-lowest loss since 2005-06 — just 13.46 fewer students than last year.
