Regan (Waltemath) Forest, 74, Brown County

Regan Marie Forest, age 74, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 21, 2010, at her home in Brown County. Sitting by her side was her devoted husband of 17 years, William L. Meyer, whom she married in May 1992 in Tucson, Ariz.

She was born Oct. 30, 1935, in North Platte, Neb., to Harry A. and Dorothy D. (Weaver) Waltemath. She was the loving mother to Karen Cole of Austin, Texas, Cynthia Meyer and her husband Karl of Austin, Texas, and Devin D. Duncan and his wife Heidi of Brown County. She will be remembered by her granddaughter, Anna Meyer of Austin, Texas; and a brother, James Waltemath of Brown County.

Regan was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Morant and Harry Waltemath Jr.. 

She was a member of the Unity of Bloomington Church in Bloomington and the Romance Writers of America.

Regan was a 1953 graduate of North Platte High School in Nebraska. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona and went on to the University of Southern California where she received her graduate degree in education.

Regan was a writer of romance novels and an avid reader. She had more than 20 romance novels published by Harlequin Romance Books. Regan also wrote poetry, short stories and other novels. She worked as an elementary school teacher in Hawaii and Tucson, Ariz. Most recently, Regan volunteered as a writing mentor for the Brown County school program.

A private family service will be conducted for Regan.

Memorial contributions can be made in honor of Regan to the Brown County Humane Society, 128 State Road 135 South, Nashville, IN 47448.
