Brown County raced out to a huge lead in the first quarter against visiting Hauser and never looked back, rolling to a 65-21 victory and improving their early-season mark to 3-0.

Turnovers and the aggressive play of the taller hosts was too much for the young Jets (1-2), who feature just one senior and two juniors on their roster.

It took less than three minutes for Brown County to build a 10-0 lead following a pair of free throws by Rebecca Wedan. Her 3-pointer 90 seconds later pushed the lead to 13-0, and a steal and layup by senior Sasha Robinson gave the hosts a commanding 15-0 lead with 4:52 still remaining in the opening frame.

The Eagles took advantage of nine Hauser turnovers to widen the gap and held the Jets to just seven attempts from the field.

“We wanted to pressure (Hauser) and get control,” Brown County coach Mike Harmon said. “I thought the girls did a good job and maintained that kind of play even from the bench.”

Freshman Leslie Sims’ driving lay-in at the 4:09 mark finally put the Jets on the scoreboard, but the damage had already been done. A jumper by senior Breanna Lange moments later put the score at 21-4, but the Jets could only connect on two free throws through the rest of the period.

“The same story as Saturday, we just didn’t come out ready to play,” Hauser coach Scott Seiple said. “We knew Brown County would be long and more experienced and they came to play.”

The Eagles were paced by the tandem 6-footers of Robinson and Whitney Williamson, who combined for 40 points and almost three dozen rebounds. Williamson was a force around the rim, getting most of her points as offensive rebound putbacks. Robinson sat the entire second quarter, but returned in the third quarter to find her groove and push the Eagles lead even larger.

Sims paced the Jets with five points.
