Brown County Junior High School has done it again. Its "We the People: the Citizen and the Consitution" team has won the state championship for a third straight year.
The team competed Monday, Dec. 17 at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis against 11 other middle schools from around the state. This year, the students were led by first-year teacher Michael Potts.
After a semester of study about American history and constitutional philosophy, as well as current events and applicable court cases, the eighth-graders testify in mock congressional hearings before panels of volunteer judges from the legal community. They prepare for several topics, but don't know which ones they'll be quizzed on until moments before entering the room.
"This is a great achievement for Brown County Schools and its students!" Potts wrote in an email announcing the win.
